Will the Gigafactory have a team of Optimus robots in the future?
In a newly released video, Elon Musk’s electric vehicle company Tesla showcases the autonomous capabilities of the Optimus robot. First unveiled in 2021 at the Artificial Intelligence (AI) event hosted by Tesla, viewers were amazed by Optimus’s appearance and Elon Musk’s bold claims.
The billionaire asserted that over time, Optimus “has the potential to be more significant than the entire transportation industry“. Below is the video demonstrating Optimus taking small steps toward the ambitions of Tesla’s chairman.
According to the developer’s specifications, Optimus is powered by the same AI system that Tesla is developing for self-driving vehicles. This robot is expected to be utilized for tasks that are “dangerous, repetitive, and boring“.
However, since its debut, Optimus has faced significant criticism. Many AI and robotics experts have labeled Elon Musk’s project as “a hoax“, questioning the practical capabilities of Optimus and criticizing its “humanoid” appearance. They argue that this design will lead to high production costs and difficulty navigating uneven terrain.
Optimus robot has been able to adapt to unexpected situations.
The new video shows that Optimus still maintains a modern humanoid shape and has now learned to perform some simple tasks. Marketed as being controlled by AI, Optimus is expected to become smarter in the future as it learns additional data related to various tasks. As illustrated in the video, Optimus has been able to adapt to unexpected situations, such as when a researcher changes the position of a colored block.
