According to the Bangkok Post, the number of patients suspected of being infected with avian influenza in Thailand has risen to 113. The Thai Ministry of Public Health reported that all suspected cases are currently isolated and under strict monitoring while awaiting test results. However, the ministry also stated that the condition of most patients is generally favorable.
Previously, Thailand announced the detection of the H5N1 avian influenza virus in Nakhon Phanom Province, located in northeastern Thailand, near the border with Laos. Inspections of 78 poultry farms in the area have also begun.
According to the Thai Ministry of Agriculture, the outbreak may have originated from chicken egg traders in the Thailand-Laos border area using mixed egg baskets.
