Thai doctors have recently discovered a female patient in the country infected with a new strain of HIV, a combination of strains A/E and C, which has never been seen before.
While the A/E strain is commonly found in HIV/AIDS patients in Thailand (98%), strain C is typically only present in Africa. This news has caused significant concern among the public. Health authorities are urging the implementation of safe sex practices to prevent the spread of HIV.
Dr. T. Sudarshan, the Director-General of the Disease Control Department of Thailand (DDC), stated that although only one case of this new HIV strain has been identified, it indicates that the virus is mutating, complicating the research and development of an HIV vaccine in the country.
