After many years of research, creativity, and refinement, Trinh Van Duc, a 9th-grade student at Hoang Luong Secondary School in Hoang Hoa District (Thanh Hoa), has successfully designed and constructed a model of an electric wheelchair (see photo).
Notably, when the wheelchair stops, the user can pull the seat back, transforming the wheelchair into a comfortable bed. The wheelchair is equipped with two headlights at the front, two turn signal lights, a reverse light, and a horn.
According to the design, Duc’s wheelchair is fitted with two motors (12V, two units, force = 200N) achieving a speed of 15.12 km/h. Additionally, this wheelchair includes a mini fan and a device capable of storing 10 music tracks, allowing disabled individuals to enjoy relaxing music while on the move.
Duc’s wheelchair model won second place in the “National Youth and Children’s Creativity Competition 2005” organized by the Central Council of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations. Duc is currently assembling a new model of this wheelchair to participate in an international exhibition for young innovators in South Korea with ten other students from across the country at the beginning of July 2006.
