On the afternoon of September 22, Mr. Lò Đình Múi, the chairman of the People’s Committee of the mountainous, border district of Quan Sơn (Thanh Hóa), confirmed the information regarding another new earthquake that occurred at over 1 PM on the same day, causing local residents to feel anxious.
The earthquake that struck at the beginning of the afternoon on September 22 had a magnitude of approximately over 2.0 on the Richter scale, lasting for a few seconds. It created light tremors in the area of Quan Sơn town and several nearby communes such as Sơn Hà, Sơn Lư, and Trung Thượng. Fortunately, this earthquake did not cause any damage to property or loss of life.
However, the aforementioned earthquake also caused anxiety among many people. Just three days earlier, around 4 PM on September 19, an earthquake with a magnitude exceeding 3.0 had occurred in Quan Sơn district, shaking and causing cracks in some houses. According to reports from the residents of Quan Sơn town, at that time, they unexpectedly felt a tremor that shook their homes and trees.
This tremor led to some poorly constructed houses developing cracks, and a few tiles from rooftops fell to the ground. Since it was only a light aftershock lasting a few seconds, there were no casualties.
It is known that earthquakes occur every few years in Quan Sơn. The earthquake that took place on the afternoon of September 19 was the strongest recorded to date. Currently, the Quan Sơn district authorities have reported the incident to the provincial People’s Committee and are implementing timely warning measures to reassure the local residents, as there may be further aftershocks.
