The first two landslide warning stations in Vietnam have been installed in Thach Lam Commune, Thach Thanh District, Thanh Hoa Province. The Thanh Hoa Provincial Flood and Storm Prevention Command stated that the landslide warning devices have two main functions: measuring rainfall for scientific research and sounding alarm whistles.
When the rainfall reaches a threshold that could trigger a landslide, this system will automatically sound alarms at three levels, from Level 1 to Level 3, corresponding to the increasing danger of landslides. Each alarm has a power output of over 20W, ensuring that residents within a radius of 3 kilometers can hear the alerts to take precautions.
Thanh Hoa Province has 25 areas across 9 mountainous districts at high risk for flash floods and landslides, with a total of more than 1,800 households and over 7,800 individuals living in these vulnerable zones. The installation of these landslide warning stations will empower residents to take proactive measures during potential landslides, thereby minimizing damage to the greatest extent possible.
