The video below captures the scene of three young black storks sleeping in their nest, waiting for their parents to bring food, when suddenly a “dark shadow” rushes by and awakens them. The chicks appear confused, not quite understanding what is happening, until a moment later, the “dark shadow” reveals itself.
The chicks are in the nest when a “dark shadow” rushes by to wake them.
It turns out to be a hawk—a dangerous enemy of the black stork. The hawk took the opportunity to attack the chicks while the parents were away. However, the young storks were very united and knew how to protect each other, which led to the hawk failing multiple times in its attempts.
Just when it seemed that the predator had given up, a surprising turn of events occurred at the last minute: the hawk suddenly swooped down and carried one chick away from the nest. Another video recorded two days later shows the hawk returning, but this time it was unsuccessful, unlike its previous attempt.
It is known that the black stork (Scientific name: Ciconia nigra) is a large wading bird (with a body length of 95 – 100 cm and a wingspan of 145 – 155 cm, weighing about 3 kg) belonging to the stork family, widely distributed across Europe. This species is very shy and highly alert.
