What Makes This Strange Animal with a Human-Like Face So Terrifying?

We often hear tales of a human-faced monster in various myths and legends, but few have seen such a creature in real life. However, one day, a young man stumbled upon a strange-looking animal while playing in a camping area in the forest.
Due to the animal’s unique and somewhat bizarre appearance, he and his friends were curious enough to try and catch it. But as they approached and saw the creature up close, the young man was taken aback.

Its face resembled a monkey but was more human-like overall, with a body similar to that of a cat, limbs like a monkey, fingers sharp like eagle talons, and fur as smooth as velvet, along with a very long, curved tail.
Having never seen such a peculiar animal before, the young man decided to take it home. He even posted a picture on social media, quickly attracting the attention of netizens.
This incident caused a local sensation and even drew in experts. However, unexpectedly, upon seeing the animal, the experts turned pale and warned: “You must not keep this creature; release it immediately!”
After hearing the experts’ opinions, everyone began to think that this creature was a dangerous monster for humans.
Why You Shouldn’t Keep a Squirrel Monkey as a Pet
It turns out that this creature is not a monster but a type of animal known as a squirrel monkey. Squirrel monkeys, also called Marmosets, are small monkeys belonging to the primate order and are one of 22 species of New World monkeys, primarily found in South America.
The dwarf marmoset species can be found in the tropical forests of Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, and Colombia. They mostly live in trees and rarely come down to the ground.

Considered one of the tiniest monkeys in the world, Marmosets are increasingly being chosen as pets due to their unique appearance. Most of these monkey species are at risk of extinction, and only with the rise of keeping them as exotic pets have they managed to escape extinction, although they remain wild animals that are difficult to domesticate.
In China, the trend of keeping tiny Marmosets is becoming popular among the youth, and they are colloquially referred to as “Little Sun Wukong.” Despite their high price, many people are willing to spend a significant amount to own one.
The demand for keeping Marmosets is rising, leading to many of these monkeys being captured in the wild, and some farms have even attempted to breed them for commercialization.
While squirrel monkeys may not be as terrifying as the legendary human-faced monsters, experts warn that squirrel monkeys are still wild animals and can carry rabies or other dangerous pathogens.
Additionally, when agitated, squirrel monkeys can attack and pose a danger to humans, which is why they should not be kept as pets.
