After being stung by bees over 20,000 times and requiring a breathing tube at the hospital, the young man miraculously woke up.
A 20-year-old man from Ohio, USA, was stung by bees 20,000 times after accidentally disturbing a beehive while trimming branches from a tree.
This young man survived after encountering a hive of African killer bees.
According to information on a GoFundMe page created to help raise funds for Austin Bellamy‘s medical expenses, the young man climbed a lemon tree on August 27 and began cutting branches, but unfortunately disturbed a hive of African killer bees.
Shawna Carter, Bellamy’s mother and the organizer of the GoFundMe campaign, stated that her son was stung by bees more than 20,000 times and required a breathing tube.
On September 1, WCPO-TV reported that Bellamy had woken up after a period of treatment at the hospital.
According to The Enquirer, Bellamy’s grandparents, Phyllis and Dustin Edwards, witnessed the incident while watching their grandson cut branches from the tree.
“When he started cutting the branches, the bees came out. He tried to duck down but couldn’t,” Phyllis Edwards said.
“He shouted, Help! Help! But no one could assist. I couldn’t reach him either, as I was surrounded by bees,” Phyllis added.
Fox 19 News reported that a medical helicopter transported Bellamy to a hospital in the Corryville area.
Bellamy’s mother also mentioned that her son had swallowed nearly 30 bees during the attack.
“There were bees inside my son’s body. Until the morning of August 28, doctors were still extracting bees from him,” Carter told The Enquirer.
According to updates on the GoFundMe page, Bellamy is still experiencing respiratory issues and “cannot walk normally,” although “many of the swellings have reduced.”
- The amount raised by donors for Bellamy currently exceeds $15,800, surpassing the initial goal of $10,000.
