A glowing, red-hot rock resembling lava from an erupting volcano has unexpectedly appeared in a field in Scotland.
Local residents in Ayrshire, Scotland, are concerned after discovering a strange rock in the field. The massive, red-hot stone is emitting large columns of smoke, creating a terrifying sight.
“The cracked, glowing rock is red-hot and billowing smoke.
Images of the glowing red rock quickly spread on social media after local resident Tom Paton shared them.
39-year-old Tom Paton stated: “The cracked, glowing rock is red-hot and billowing smoke, causing concern among locals, and nearby wildlife is also frightened. If you don’t know the exact location or look very carefully, you might not notice the rock because it has been obscured.”
The shared images show molten rock scorching the surrounding grass, despite the area being in the cold of winter.
They have erected a fence around the area to ensure safety and prevent unexpected dangers. The rock and its fissure have been in this state for about three years but only recently gained attention after being shared on social media.
Many experienced individuals are concerned that beneath the red-hot rock lies a system of deep holes.
Local residents report a strong foul smell in the area, making it very dangerous for children to roam the field. Additionally, many experienced individuals fear that beneath the red-hot rock lies an unexplored system of deep fissures in the Earth, posing various hazards.
One local resident remarked: “At first, I didn’t realize how serious the situation was. This is really dangerous because it could kill anyone who accidentally falls on it.”
Some opinions suggest that the cause of this phenomenon may be a fire in an abandoned coal mine that has smoldered for years.
Tom Paton shared: This place has been burning for over 3 years. The area is currently very cold, with temperatures dropping. If snow falls, it will immediately melt away. It gets even worse in the summer months. The smell is very strong and unpleasant. Its size is quite large and is showing signs of expanding further.”
The local authorities are continuing to engage with stakeholders to plan research, exploration, and safety solutions for the area. In the meantime, they encourage residents to stay away from the area and request that no one interferes with any temporary safety measures they are implementing.
