One of the world’s most valuable treasures has recently been uncovered in Israel, consisting of pure gold that is intricately crafted, serving as a time capsule that transports scientists back to the legendary Byzantine Empire.
According to the BBC, the treasure consists of 44 pure gold coins dating back to the 7th century, discovered within an ancient wall at the Hermon Stream Nature Reserve (Banias) – Israel.

Experts estimate that the treasure weighs approximately 170 grams and was hidden in the remains of an ancient city of the Byzantine Empire, which was the eastern half of the Roman Empire and thrived for over 1,000 years.
The ancient city is now nestled within the grounds of the nature reserve.
Israeli archaeologists reported that the 44 pure gold coins from the 7th century were found concealed within a wall at a nature reserve.
Excavation director Yoav Lerer told the BBC: “We can imagine the owner hiding their valuables in the face of war, hoping to one day return to reclaim their belongings. In hindsight, we know that they were unfortunate.”
According to Israeli authorities, in addition to the gold coins, the excavation also uncovered remnants of buildings, water channels, pipes, copper coins, and many other valuable items.
Dr. Gabriela Bijovsky, a currency expert at the Israel Antiquities Authority, noted that some coins belonged to Emperor Phocas (602-610), but most were from his successor, Heraclius.
Given its age, historical significance, and the fact that it is made of pure gold, this treasure can be considered unparalleled and highly coveted among the global archaeological community.
