There are many types of animals living on Earth, but some of the world’s longest-jumping animals astonish everyone with their incredible distances.
Not only do many animals around the world run fast, but they also possess remarkable jumping abilities that far exceed those of humans. Most of the longest-jumping animals are relatively small in size.
Tree Frog
The tree frog has a green body, closely resembling the color of leaves.
Most species of tree frogs are solitary animals with minimal social behavior, typically coming together only during mating season. Tree frogs can jump up to 150 times their body length, equivalent to the length of the Titanic.
With strong limbs, large webbing between their toes, and broad skin folds along their arms, tree frogs can easily glide from one tree to another.
Jumping Spider
Jumping spiders have a diverse hunting style.
Jumping spiders belong to the family Salticidae, with over 4,000 species found worldwide, predominantly in tropical regions. This species can jump up to 100 times its body length, approximately the distance of two commercial airplanes.
Additionally, jumping spiders are known for their quick reflexes and impressive leaping ability. They can jump up to 25 times their size, making them formidable predators.
Flea
Despite their small size, this animal has an astonishing jumping ability.
Fleas, or pulicidae, are commonly known as small wingless insects of the order Siphonaptera, classified as blood-sucking parasites living on the skin of mammals and birds.
Fleas are dubbed the “world’s highest jumping champion among animals”, capable of jumping up to 200 times their body length and 150 times their height. Although they are only 1.5 to 1.6 mm long, they possess extraordinary strength.
Froghopper
The legs of froghoppers are made of a hard epidermis and resilin.
Froghoppers are known as plant-sucking nymphs that hide during spring. They currently hold the title of champions in the insect kingdom.
Measuring only 6 mm, froghoppers can propel themselves up to 70 cm into the air. In the record books of extraordinary jumping abilities among insects, froghoppers rank second.
Moreover, froghoppers can jump up to 100 times their body length and can withstand over 400g of gravitational force while jumping.
Jumping Mouse
Jumping mice have white fur.
Jumping mice are warm-blooded animals with well-developed hind legs, while their forelegs are relatively small, and their heads are larger than their bodies. Their tails are longer than the combined length of their body and head. Additionally, these mice can jump up to 45 times their body length.
If jumping mice utilize a flag-tail jumping technique, their running ability will significantly improve, consuming less energy and minimizing the risk of being hunted by predators. They can also switch to a “completely still” state at night to evade enemies.
