Surrounded and fiercely attacked by a pack of hungry lions, a young elephant bravely fought back and made a spectacular escape.
This unbelievable scene was captured by tourists at South Luangwa National Park, Zambia.
In the clip, a juvenile elephant unfortunately gets separated from its herd and is attacked by 14 hungry lions near a waterhole. Although quite panicked as the lionesses jumped onto its back, the young elephant remained calm and fought back.
In fact, it even delivered powerful kicks that thwarted the lions’ attempts to approach from behind. After a struggle, the elephant managed to break free from the lions’ pursuit and cleverly ran into the water. The lions, confused by the prey’s actions, hesitated despite the water being shallow.

After an extended battle, the elephant made a “turnaround” by successfully driving off the pursuing lions and escaping safely. Having survived the life-and-death moment, the elephant expressed its joy by flapping its ears and spraying water with its trunk.
Having lost their prey, the hungry lions left the scene in search of a buffalo to replace their missed lunch.
Unlike other big cats, lions hunt in packs. They are apex predators, primarily preying on other mammals, especially medium to large-sized ungulates, including plains zebras, blue wildebeests, African buffalo, giraffes, hippos, and even juvenile African bush elephants. However, not every hunting expedition results in a successful outcome for the lions.
