For comparison, the highest recorded speed for a Formula 1 car is 397.48 km/h, while the fastest tennis serve clocks in at just 263 km/h.
The record, set in 2023, surpassed the previous record of 493 km/h, held by Malaysian badminton player Tan Boon Heong. Rankireddy’s achievement is recognized as the fastest badminton smash, regardless of player gender. The women’s record belongs to Malaysian athlete Pearly Tan, who achieved a speed of 438 km/h.
Both records set by Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Pearly Tan were accomplished under strictly controlled conditions at the Yonex Tokyo factory located in Soka, Saitama, Japan. The records were established on April 14, 2023. Shortly thereafter, Guinness World Records validated the achievements of both athletes based on the measured metrics.
