Scientists have unveiled the world’s fastest charging technology for smartphones, capable of fully charging a smartphone in less than 5 minutes.
This record-breaking fast charging technology can recharge your smartphone battery in just 5 minutes, faster than the time it takes to write an email.
320 Watt Fast Charging Technology, known as “320W SuperSonic Charge”, was developed by the Chinese consumer electronics company Realme and surpasses previous chargers. The previous record was held by the smartphone manufacturer Redmi, a subsidiary of Xiaomi, which revealed a 300W charging technology that could charge devices in 4 minutes and 55 seconds back in February 2023.

A representative from Realme showcased the new technology at the Realme 828 Fanfest event in Shenzhen, China, on August 14th. The record-breaking fast charging capability can recharge a smartphone battery to 26% in 1 minute and to 50% in under 2 minutes, taking only 4 minutes and 30 seconds to fully charge the device.
Unlike conventional charging technology, which sends power sequentially to one or more battery cells, fast charging technology charges multiple battery cells simultaneously within a battery.
During the demonstration, a Realme representative rapidly charged a folded battery design with a capacity of 4,420 milliampere-hours, stacking four cells on top of each other. This design offers 10% greater capacity compared to conventional designs, according to the company representative.
According to a promotional video posted on the social media platform X, scientists have miniaturized each battery cell into layered structures to store more charging capacity in a smaller space before folding the four battery cells to simulate the shape of a satellite panel.
The company has also created a power adapter called “Pocket Cannon” with a power density of 3.3 watts per cubic centimeter. Other devices, including iPhones with USB-C ports, will receive power from the adapter, albeit not at the same speed. Realme’s previous technology could fully charge the Realme GT Neo 5 smartphone in under 10 minutes.
The new adapter is compatible with various fast charging standards, the company representative stated, including UFCS, PD, and SuperVOOC, and features two USB-C ports so users can charge two devices simultaneously. The maximum charging speed reaches up to 150W for Realme smartphones and 65W for compatible laptops.
Realme representatives also revealed the “AirGap” voltage transformer, which ensures that high voltage is isolated from the smartphone battery in the event of power incidents like circuit failures. This is intended to prevent damage to the smartphone.
The transformer operates based on a principle known as “non-contact electrical conversion”. This small transformer reduces the voltage to 20 volts to protect battery lifespan and helps the fast charger maintain a power efficiency of 93% while charging.
