Photographer Francois Pienaar captured the hunting scene of a pride of lions in the Klaserie Nature Reserve within Kruger National Park, South Africa.
After a tense period of stalking, three lions decided to charge at a nearby giraffe. One lion climbed onto its back while the other two clung to the hind legs of the prey. Other members of the pride quickly joined the hunt by biting into the giraffe’s body.
According to Daily Mail, despite each lion weighing around 170 kg, the pride was still no match for the giraffe, which weighed 794 kg. The giraffe continued to struggle and run until the lions became exhausted from the effort. Photographer Francois Pienaar witnessed and documented the intense standoff between the lions and the giraffe from a distance of 30 meters in the Klaserie Reserve. Ultimately, the pride of six lions struggled for five hours but could not bring the giraffe down.
