The Lion Diet, commonly referred to as the “Lion Diet,” consists of consuming nothing but meat, salt, and water for 30 days. This diet has become the latest trend among TikTok users, who are challenging themselves to try it.
Some individuals have documented their experiences with this latest dietary trend, claiming it helps with allergies, headaches, skin issues, and mood stabilization.
A TikTok user from Brisbane decided to try this diet.
A TikTok user from Brisbane decided to try this diet to see if it would help alleviate his long list of allergies while documenting his progress.
User @roryskitchen, who has 220,900 followers and 2.8 million likes on TikTok, stated that he is testing the diet for 30 days to discover three things: whether he can heal his gut, address autoimmune symptoms and health issues; what happens to his body after only eating meat for 30 days; and how his stool will be affected.
He prepares meals for the entire week and starts by eating ground grass-fed beef cooked in broth with nothing but salt, and continues this daily.
When he first began the meat-heavy diet, he mentioned having the “best night’s sleep”—but began feeling unwell shortly after. As the diet continued, he noted that his skin started to improve, his sinuses became clearer, and he was going to the bathroom more “regularly.”
According to his latest video, he is currently on day 23 of this diet and says he feels like “what I’m doing is really working.”
The Lion Diet was invented by podcaster and TedEx speaker Mikhaila Peterson, who calls it the “ultimate elimination diet” and a “cure-all,” according to the Daily Mail.
Peterson wrote on her website: “It eliminates all other dietary variables and maintains your body’s nutritional needs, allowing you to thrive.”
Mikhaila Peterson is the founder of The Lion Diet.
Mikhaila Peterson, 28, is a TedEx speaker, podcaster, and has faced health issues like arthritis since the age of seven. She experienced a miraculous recovery after discovering the “Lion Diet” by eliminating food groups based on her health issues.
Peterson has dealt with numerous health problems from childhood. She suffered from chronic illness until the age of 23 and was on SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) until she was 25.
She was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis at the age of 7—despite showing symptoms as early as 2 years old—and was placed on immunosuppressants at age 8. Peterson was diagnosed with severe depression and treated with SSRIs when she was 12.
At 14, Peterson often felt fatigued and began experiencing widespread itching. Three years later, she underwent hip and ankle replacements due to arthritis. She suffered from chronic pain for 10 years after her ankle surgery and spent a year on OxyContin following the operation, including one instance of withdrawal.
Some have claimed that this diet helps with allergies, headaches, skin issues, and mood stabilization.
At 21, Peterson was diagnosed with idiopathic insomnia (chronic fatigue). She developed a rash related to Celiac disease and decided to switch her diet to address her health issues.
She started with a bland restricted diet and eventually transitioned to an all-meat diet.
“My brain and gut were so damaged that I could only tolerate an all-beef or ruminant meat diet (like lamb and bison), which I call the Lion Diet,” she wrote on The Lion Diet website.
Peterson has been on this diet for five years, is now healthy, and hopes to show others that they can improve their own lives.
Portions for The Lion Diet.
According to Healthline, proponents of this diet argue that it reduces inflammation, improves mood, and alleviates issues such as headaches, insomnia, and allergies. However, others argue that it is unsustainable, unhealthy, ineffective, overly restrictive, and extreme.
Researchers state: “The Lion Diet eliminates all food groups except salt, water, and animal meat. In addition to being high in saturated fat, it is not sustainable and may lead to nutritional deficiencies.”
