Recently, an angler shared images of a unique golden-scaled carp on Douyin, instantly capturing significant attention from the online community.
The fisherman suggested that the fish might have “grown up eating gold,” due to its unusual color. Internet users chimed in with comments, some likening it to being covered in gold leaf, while others expressed skepticism about the fish’s existence. Some humorously remarked that this was a “fish that fell from the sky” and advised to “release it as soon as possible.”
Upon review, experts concluded that this is a Chagoi Koi – a renowned and rare breed of Koi originating from Japan.
The Chagoi Koi has been bred and developed over centuries, dating back to the Taisho era (1912–1926), featuring a unique coloration and impressive size. Since its emergence, the Chagoi has become a famous symbol within the global Koi enthusiast community.

According to experts, the Chagoi Koi is distinguished by its remarkable physical characteristics: a round body, broad head and shoulders, and thick, opaque fins. They also possess scales that create a unique “mesh” effect. Chagoi is available in various color variations, including earth brown, olive green, and gray, corresponding to the Koi Soragoi and Midorigoi lines.
This species is known to grow up to 70 cm in length, with some individuals exceeding 1.2 meters.
The Chagoi is often regarded as the “King” of Koi breeds due to its friendly nature and ability to lead schools of fish in ponds. When fed, they are usually the first to swim up and attract the entire group to follow. Many Koi enthusiasts believe that Chagoi not only possesses feng shui qualities but also symbolizes strength, patience, and the ability to overcome challenges.

Additionally, the characteristic colors of Chagoi, such as brown and green, are believed to symbolize balance and wealth in feng shui. They not only foster harmony within the group but also attract luck and positive energy for the owner.
For this reason, the Chagoi Koi consistently ranks high on the priority list of experienced Koi breeders.
Given its symbolic and feng shui values, it’s no surprise that the golden-scaled Chagoi recently caught has quickly become a hot topic in online discussions.
