The SEA Games 31 medals are made from a copper-zinc alloy, with approximately 85% of the composition being red copper. Each medal is 5mm thick, featuring the SEA Games 31 mascot, the Saola, on one side and an embossed logo on the other.
The logo on the medal represents the “Wings of a Bird Taking Flight and the V Hand Gesture”, symbolizing athletes placing their hands over their hearts while singing the national anthem. The blue bird symbolizes resilience, the aspiration to conquer new heights, and fraternal friendship within the region.
Notably, the Gold medal will be plated with 24k gold. Similarly, the Silver medal will be silver-plated, and the Bronze medal will be copper-plated.
Additionally, to enhance durability and preservation, each medal will be lined with three layers of plating and an outer layer. A distinctive feature is that the medal ribbon is not made of silk or satin like other medals but is sewn from woven fabric, providing sturdiness.
Artist Nguyễn Văn Hùng from the Vietnam Animation Film Studio, the designer of the SEA Games 31 medals, expressed his joy at having his design selected by the organizing committee. Previously, he had the “opportunity” to design the medals for the Asian Beach Games in 2016.
“For the overall design of the SEA Games 31 medals, I drew inspiration from cultural elements and landmarks of Vietnam, combined with the logo and mascot of the SEA Games, designed in a circular shape with a cohesive layout that reflects a modern and fresh style,” shared artist Nguyễn Văn Hùng about his concept.

The back of the medal features the Saola mascot standing on a podium, set against a backdrop of the logo with famous landmarks such as the Temple of Literature, Long Bien Bridge, and Dragon Bridge.
The front is designed with a crescent-shaped segment that embraces the SEA Games logo, featuring a modern, free-flowing layout, with 11 circles representing the participating nations at the SEA Games at the center. The logo is set against rays arranged in a conical style, symbolizing the Quan Ho folk singing, representing radiant beams that enhance the logo’s liveliness.
The SEA Games 31 will take place from May 12-23 (with men’s football starting early on May 6) in Hanoi and 11 neighboring provinces and cities. The event will feature 40 sports with 526 events, involving over 10,000 athletes, officials, and referees from 11 Southeast Asian sports delegations. The goal of the Vietnamese sports delegation is to top the SEA Games 31 medal tally, with the men’s and women’s football and athletics teams striving for the highest positions in Southeast Asia.
