Regarding the children in Ba Vì District (Hà Tây Province) suffering from Delta muscle fibrosis, on May 8th, leaders from the Ministry of Health, the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, the Central Pediatric Hospital, and Military Medical Institute 103 visited the local area to find solutions for treating the affected children.

According to the latest survey by the Hà Tây Department of Health, there are currently 170 children diagnosed with Delta muscle fibrosis in Vật Lại Commune, Ba Vì District. During the working session today, the Ministry of Health leadership examined elementary and middle school students in Vật Lại. The Hà Tây health sector reported that the first patients were identified as early as 2005, but due to delays in addressing the issue, the number of affected children has significantly increased since then.
According to specialists from the Treatment Department of the Ministry of Health, the Central Pediatric Hospital, Military Medical Institute 103, and the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, this condition can be cured in nearly 100% of cases. However, understanding the root cause of the disease will require time and thorough research.
The Minister of Health proposed that the health sector prepare surgical plans for the children in Ba Vì during this summer. The Ministry of Health will immediately organize training for doctors and medical staff at the district and provincial levels in Hà Tây to perform surgeries for the children over the summer. Another plan involves coordination between the Central Pediatric Hospital, Military Medical Institute 103, and several central hospitals with local hospitals to set up mobile surgical units for the children. The funding for surgeries will be sourced from local poverty alleviation funds, disability support funds, and public contributions.
During this meeting, Minister Trần Thị Trung Chiến also announced plans to instruct health departments across 64 provinces and cities to check and review cases of Delta muscle fibrosis and will organize treatment training in all three regions: North, Central, and South. However, the initial focus will be on Hà Tây, Hà Tĩnh, and Nghệ An provinces.
