Walking for 30 minutes each day can reduce your risk of high blood pressure, memory loss, colorectal cancer, tighten your abdominal muscles, and strengthen bone density…
>>> Walking reduces the risk of metabolic syndrome
>>> Walking fast is better than jogging
Additionally, a recent study has shown that even everyday tasks, such as regular walking and housework, can help you and your brain stay younger.
The medical community has long emphasized that maintaining activity, including walking, not only makes you happier but also healthier.
Walking Benefits Brain Health
According to Prevention, this is the main finding from a recent study conducted by Pennsylvania State University (USA), which evaluated the impact of daily physical activities on health. But how can walking slow down the aging process?
In the study published in the Annals of Behavioral Medicine, researchers asked 204 participants to answer a series of questions on their phones daily. Over nine days, these individuals were required to check in six times a day—approximately every 3.5 hours.
Through the reports, participants shared whether they had engaged in physical activity since their last check-in, rating the exercise as light, moderate, or vigorous. Walking was considered a “light” activity, while hiking was classified as “vigorous.” They were then asked to play two brain games to test their processing speed and memory.
The researchers found that when individuals engaged in physical activity—even light activity—within the previous 3.5 hours, their processing speed was equivalent to that of someone four years younger.
