Nearly 4 million years ago, the first ancestors of modern humans began to walk on two legs on the ground. They left behind the first footprints in history.
Scientists have discovered some of the oldest traces of humanity in the Odulvai Gorge, located in Tanzania (East Africa): these include human bones, stones, tools, and remnants of some rudimentary “houses” made of stone.
However, the most astonishing discovery was made when archaeologists uncovered footprints preserved in a layer of volcanic ash. These footprints can be identified as belonging to three individuals (two adults and one child) who passed through this area approximately 3.7 million years ago. This marks the first evidence of human presence on Earth.
