For decades, the water in Mrs. Lê Thúy Nghĩa’s pond in Vĩnh Long has been boiling day and night. The homeowner revealed that the more “human presence” there is, the stronger the water boils, and despite the boiling water, animals still thrive in the pond.
The pond is located in the fruit garden of Mrs. Lê Thúy Nghĩa, residing in Hamlet 1, Hòa Thạnh Commune, Tam Bình District, Vĩnh Long. The pond has a depth of 1.5 meters and a width of 4.5 meters. In the center of the pond, there are three strong boiling spots, surrounded by numerous small bubbles rising to the surface.
The owner of the pond stated that it has been boiling for over a hundred years, a legacy from ancestors. Although there are many ponds around her house, only this one exhibits such a peculiar boiling phenomenon.

Notably, when the water level rises, the boiling spots become very vigorous, even splashing water outside. Strangely enough, despite the boiling water, the temperature remains normal, similar to other ponds, allowing fish and various plants to thrive in this environment.
“There are indeed fish, snails, and plants living below. This pond is very peculiar; it seems to sense human presence. Whenever there is talking or more people come to watch, the water boils even stronger. Many people are afraid to touch the boiling water for fear of burns, but when they see me wash my hands to prove that the water is cool, they follow suit.”
The naturally boiling pond has intrigued many. About 7 or 8 years ago, Mrs. Nghĩa’s pond became a phenomenon, attracting numerous visitors daily. Many were astonished, as it was their first time witnessing a pond boiling without any heating.
According to Mrs. Nghĩa, several years ago, scientists brought equipment to investigate and suggested that it was due to methane gas escaping from the earth’s crust, as similar phenomena were observed in other locations within Hòa Thạnh Commune.
However, only this particular pond exhibits the strongest boiling activity. Due to this peculiarity, many people travel long distances each year to witness the mystery of this boiling pond.
