The scene at the Shanghai Tower has fascinated the local residents.
According to Dahe Daily, on February 23rd, some netizens in Shanghai, China, shared a series of photos showing a rare sight at the upper levels of the Shanghai Tower, which is considered the tallest building in China.
The upper levels of the Shanghai Tower covered in ice and snow.
The images shared reveal that the upper floors of this 632-meter tall tower were blanketed with a significant amount of ice and snow. Additionally, some videos captured the interior of these upper levels, showing everything covered in a white frost, with snow and ice clinging to the metal columns, resembling a stunning “ice maze.” This video quickly went viral, delighting many viewers.
The interior also covered in frost.
Explaining this phenomenon, meteorological experts suggest that the accumulation of snow on the tops of skyscrapers like the Shanghai Tower is related to vertical temperature distribution. Standing at 632 meters tall, when temperatures drop, it is possible for snow to accumulate on high-rise buildings. This is why “it is rare to see snow in Shanghai, but the Shanghai Tower can freeze.”
In recent days, Shanghai has experienced low temperatures and high humidity, with average temperatures on top of the Shanghai Center around -5 degrees Celsius, thus some elevated areas may experience natural phenomena like frost and snow.
Starting from February 25th, the management of the Shanghai Tower will temporarily control the area and related roads to avoid disrupting other activities of the building.
It is known that the Shanghai Tower is located at 501 Zhongshan Road, Lujiazui Financial and Trade Zone, Shanghai. Reports indicate that construction of this tower began on November 29, 2008, and was completed on March 12, 2016.
The Shanghai Tower is primarily used for public purposes such as offices, restaurants, commerce, and tourism. The main building has 127 floors and a total height of 632 meters. It is a famous skyscraper in Shanghai and currently the tallest building in China and the third tallest in the world.
