Numerous conspiracy theories have emerged regarding a pyramid-shaped mountain in the Ellsworth Mountains of Antarctica.

In 2016, satellite images circulated on the internet depicting something akin to the Egyptian pyramids commonly seen on screen. However, the distinct difference is that it was discovered in Antarctica.
The satellite images reveal that the structure of this object has four sloping sides, quite similar to the Great Pyramid of Giza.
With an area of approximately 2 square kilometers, the Antarctica “pyramid” and its unique geological structure have immediately become a source of inspiration for various conspiracy theories.
Some believe it was built by an ancient civilization over 10,000 years ago when Antarctica was warmer. Others assert that it is the work of extraterrestrials.
According to David Childress, the author of these theories, ancient people may have created this pyramid long before the Egyptians were known for their constructions.
“This is the oldest pyramid in the world. It is the first pyramid and the model for the pyramids that humans built later,” David Childress stated.

However, geologists do not share this belief. They argue that it is merely a mountain that resembles a pyramid.
Professor Eric Rignot from the University of Irvine asserts that the structure of a pyramid is not impossible to occur naturally.
The expert explains that the “pyramids” in nature are actually a common feature in glaciated areas. The mountain’s shape results from the convergence of glaciers on each side.
Dr. Mitch Darcy, a geologist at the German Geological Research Center, confirms that this is not a complex structure, nor is it a special coincidence.
“The pyramid-like structure is located in the Ellsworth mountain range, which stretches over 400 km. Therefore, it is not surprising for a rocky peak to rise above the ice. The unique shape of the rocky peak is merely a random coincidence,” Mitch Darcy said.

According to Darcy, the scientific term for these geological forms is “nunatak”. In simple terms, they are just rocky peaks that rise above a glacier or an iceberg.
“While it may look like a pyramid, it is certainly not a creation of humans, nor of any other civilization,” Dr. Darcy emphasized.
In reality, pyramid-shaped mountain peaks are quite common, such as the Matterhorn in the Alps or the Bulandstindur mountain in Iceland.
Nevertheless, conspiracy theorists reject this explanation. They argue that we know too little about ancient history, and humans may have lived on Earth longer than we think.
