An Indian woman has come up with a unique initiative to create a fish trap from bamboo and bamboo matting (a product woven from bamboo strips used for shielding, protecting poultry, or constructing simple walls).
A very simple bamboo fish trap.
First, she rolled the bamboo mat into a cylindrical shape and secured it with bamboo sticks (1). Then, she wove a round tool from thin mesh, which is tied with string (2) to facilitate easy lifting and lowering.
Once everything was prepared, the woman took the trap to the water for installation. Above the cylindrical tool (1) is a horizontal bamboo pole that serves as a beam to stabilize the tool (2). She also constructed a bamboo bridge to lead to the trap’s location.
Finally, the trap was ready to operate. The woman placed some bait inside the trap and patiently waited. When she pulled tool (2) out of the water, to her surprise, many different types of fish were caught inside.
