On September 22, the leadership of Hương Vĩnh Commune, Hương Khê District (Hà Tĩnh), confirmed this information and stated that the Trôi Tree has long been recognized as a heritage tree, becoming a unique cultural symbol of the locality.
According to the local authorities, the recognition of heritage trees in Vietnam helps protect biodiversity, enrich the flora, and promote the local cultural history. In the near future, local government plans to establish a protective area to better safeguard the tree.
The Trôi Tree is located within the cultural center of Vĩnh Thắng village, Hương Vĩnh Commune, Hương Khê District. The tree stands 27 meters tall, with a trunk circumference of 8.2 meters and a canopy spread of 40 meters. Its branches are lush, the bark is knobby, and it has a rough texture. Many locals report that the tree blooms in a unique manner, flowering only on one side each year.
The ancient Trôi Tree is not only connected to the cultural life of the people but also serves as a reminder of the past, particularly the significant memories of the local’s efforts during the commando operations years ago in Vĩnh Thắng village.
