On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the launch of the first Rubik’s Cube, invented by Hungarian sculptor Erno Rubik, the Japanese toy company MegaHouse has introduced the world’s smallest Rubik’s Cube.
MegaHouse conceived this project about four years ago and began implementation in 2022. While creating a square metal cube measuring only 0.5 cm may not seem too challenging in today’s era, making a functional Rubik’s Cube with rotating faces is a significant challenge.

MegaHouse had to collaborate with a precision cutting company to ensure that all the tiny parts worked smoothly as expected.
Mr. Kiyokazu Saito, Director of Iriso Precision, stated: “The 0.5 cm Rubik’s Cube is the result of a trio of machinery, cutting tools, and the passion of the players.”
Weighing only 0.33 grams, this world’s smallest Rubik’s Cube is about 1/1,000 the size of a regular Rubik’s Cube, but it costs hundreds of times more.
Launched just a few days ago on the MegaHouse website, Rubik’s Cube enthusiasts can pre-order this engineering marvel for $5,320. The first orders are expected to be delivered in April next year.
With such an expensive price tag, the world’s smallest Rubik’s Cube is likely to become a collector’s item for enthusiasts, as most people may not want to spend over $5,000 on a puzzle that they might need tools to solve.
MegaHouse’s creation was awarded the Guinness World Record for the smallest Rubik’s Cube in August.
