This unique rock formation is located in a coastal province in Central Vietnam.
Unexpectedly Exposed Rock Formation
According to Vnexpress, in 2018, the Nước Chè Hydropower Company in Phước Năng Commune, Phước Sơn District, Quảng Nam Province opened a road from the turbine to the water channel in Phước Mỹ, revealing a rock formation with unusual shapes. Local residents reported that previously the rocks were hidden underground, only a small portion was visible but obscured by vegetation.

This rock formation has made a strong impression on those who have witnessed it as it bears a striking resemblance to the famous Gành Đá Đĩa in Phú Yên.
According to Vietnamplus, Gành Đá Đĩa (Plateau of Stone Disks) is considered a magnificent masterpiece of nature and has become a precious gem in Phú Yên’s tourism sector. These basalt columns were formed approximately 200 million years ago, stacked on each other in a unique shape due to volcanic activity in the Vân Hòa Plateau (Sơn Hòa District).
Scientists believe that the columns were created when volcanic lava erupted into the sea and solidified upon contact with cold water. Coupled with stress-induced phenomena, the entire mass of magma cracked, resulting in the formation of Gành Đá Đĩa.

With its geological and historical significance, Gành Đá Đĩa has been recognized as a Special National Monument under Decision No. 2280/QĐ-TTg dated December 31, 2020, by the Prime Minister of Vietnam.
Globally, aside from Phú Yên, there are a few other places with similar phenomena, such as the Giant’s Causeway (Ireland), Los Órganos (Spain), and Fingal’s Cave (Scotland).
The rock formation in Quảng Nam features many tall, straight columns arranged closely together, creating a unique and majestic landscape. This rock formation stretches nearly 500 meters, with natural columns exhibiting quadrilateral, hexagonal, or circular cross-sections, all consistent in color and size. Each column stands about 5 meters tall and runs parallel along the path.

According to Người Lao động, some geological experts suggest that this rock formation may be millions of years old. Due to weathering and erosion, the sedimentary layers have formed these uniquely shaped columns.
The Newly Discovered Rock Formation Features Stunning Untouched Scenery
Under the “hand” of nature, the rock columns are arranged to create a scene that is both majestic and harmonious.

The winding mountain below features the Đắk Chè Stream, with acacia forests acting as a canopy above. Since it has only recently been exposed, the rocks have not yet been significantly affected by nature. The tranquil and majestic atmosphere of this area currently lacks tourism development, but it has already attracted attention from local communities and adventurous visitors.
In a statement to Tiền Phong, Hồ Văn Khu, the Chairman of the People’s Committee of Phước Năng Commune, mentioned that this unique rock exposure remains pristine and little-known. Occasionally, only a few locals visit to admire the view or bathe in the stream. Currently, it has not been investigated by relevant authorities.

Currently, local authorities are aware of the potential value for tourism development and are considering turning this area into a new attraction. However, further research and assessment from relevant agencies are needed to ensure sustainable development, balancing conservation with tourism exploitation.
It is hoped that in the future, the Quảng Nam rock formation will become a fresh and attractive tourist destination, showcasing the unique natural landscape gifted by nature to the land and its people.
