Concerns about predatory crocodiles attacking people have led villagers in Indonesia to capture the animal and hand it over to the authorities.
Footage recorded on June 25 in Ambau Indah village in southern Sulawesi shows a man named Usman, along with his son, daringly capturing the massive crocodile using just a rope.
Villagers attempt to capture the animal and hand it over to the authorities.
In an interview with Reuters, Usman stated that the dangerous predator, measuring up to 4.3 meters in length, had been wandering in the area for at least two days, causing fear among the villagers.
“If we don’t do anything, the crocodile will venture further inland, and the villagers will be afraid to go out to work,” the 53-year-old man explained. “There are also water channels around the roads where locals fish. It would be very dangerous if it gets into the channels. I had to seize the opportunity to catch it.”
There have been several previous incidents of crocodiles attacking people in the area, so the residents of Ambau Indah praised Usman and his son’s brave actions.
“What Usman did is highly appreciated by the community. In fact, some people even regard him as a hero because it saved many who could have become victims,” said Umar Siddiq Al Farizi, a local resident.

Farizi also commended Usman’s decision to try to capture the animal and hand it over to the authorities.
“Usman sees the crocodile as a rare animal whose habitat has been destroyed by flooding. Therefore, he believes it needs to be protected and should not be killed,” the man added.
Officials from the local Natural Resources Conservation Agency quickly arrived at the scene after receiving the report. They loaded the massive crocodile onto a truck to relocate it to a natural habitat far from residential areas.
