In cases of doppelgängers, similar-looking individuals can often be encountered in everyday life. However, there are also other instances of doppelgängers that are difficult to explain.
Not only do they share the same name, appearance, height, and profession, but the two Brady Feigls also discovered each other in a remarkably incredible and rare way.
In the world of baseball in the United States, there are two athletes named Brady Feigl. Their similarities do not just stop at their names. The chance encounter and interesting “doppelgänger” situation between these two men has surprised themselves, those around them, and their fans.
Brady Feigl, 32, is a player for the Long Island Ducks and looks strikingly similar to Brady Feigl, 27, who plays for the Las Vegas Aviators. Both stand at 6 feet 4 inches tall, have red hair, sport beards, and wear glasses. At first glance, people who are not friends or family of either may easily confuse them or assume they are identical twins. And when looking at their names, it only adds to the confusion.
Brady Matthew Feigl, 32, from Maryland and plays for the Long Island Ducks.
Brady Gregory Feigl, 27, born in Missouri and plays for the Las Vegas Aviators.
Both Brady Feigls are competing in the Minor League Baseball in the U.S. In addition to their similar faces, names, professions, and positions, the way they discovered each other was equally strange: they both received treatment for the same ailment at the clinic of the same doctor at the same time, even though they were in two different cities. The doctor had mixed up his two patients.
In 2015, both athletes underwent elbow surgery performed by the same doctor, James Andrews.
When the 32-year-old Brady had his surgery about six or seven months prior, the doctor’s office called his coach to schedule a pre-surgery appointment. As he was clearly recovering, Brady realized the doctor’s mistake, and they both laughed at the coincidence of having two baseball players named Brady Feigl. The two “doppelgängers” then reached out and became acquainted.
They also attracted attention when a major baseball organization’s social media account tweeted a birthday greeting to the 27-year-old Brady. However, they mistakenly tagged the account of the 32-year-old Brady.
The 32-year-old Brady humorously replied: “You’ve got the wrong Brady Feigl. Are you looking for @bfeigl39?” and tagged his “doppelgänger’s” name.
The two have become close friends due to this rare and interesting coincidence.
The resemblance between the two athletes has drawn so much attention that many fans speculated that somehow, the two might be long-lost siblings. After a long time of friendship, Brady Gregory Feigl and Brady Matthew Feigl actually went to get DNA tests to see if they were related, given their striking resemblance. However, the final result showed that they have no blood relation, nor even share distant ancestors.
Baseball fans in America sometimes get a bit “confused” because of the two Brady Feigls.
Even though they are not blood relatives, both assert that they will remain lifelong close friends.
The older Brady stated: “We are still brothers in a way. And we will always be Brady Feigl.”
The two athletes named Brady Feigl may not be the only “identical strangers” in the world. A study published in August 2022, after observing and analyzing 32 pairs of “doppelgängers” that resemble each other like identical twins, found that people who look alike but are not related share genetic similarities.
