On November 18th, the list of localities reporting cases of avian influenza has reached 17, following the announcement from the Thái Bình provincial government regarding the outbreak of avian flu in the area. Thus, the avian influenza has been confirmed in 114 communes and wards across 62 districts in 17 provinces and cities.
Mr. Nguyễn Xuân Dương, Deputy Chief of the Thái Bình Animal Health Department, reported that the outbreak has occurred in a flock of 85 chickens belonging to Mr. Phạm Văn Kim (Đầu hamlet, Hưng Nhân town, Hưng Hà district).
Test results have confirmed that the birds were infected with the H5 strain of the avian influenza virus. Currently, Thái Bình province is implementing various measures to control the outbreak and tightening the transportation of poultry that has not undergone quarantine.

* Multiple Cases of Illegal Poultry Transport into Ho Chi Minh City Detected
According to reports from the Ho Chi Minh City Animal Health Department, on November 18th, the inter-agency inspection teams discovered 27 cases of illegal transport of poultry and waterfowl, as well as eggs, into the city.
Mr. Phan Xuân Thảo, Deputy Chief of the Ho Chi Minh City Animal Health Department, stated that in recent days, many individuals have been placing poultry and eggs into small baskets and using rudimentary motorcycles or riding on passenger vehicles to bring them into the city.

* Hue City: Poultry Culling Begins
Yesterday (November 18th), the Thừa Thiên – Huế Animal Health Department announced that veterinary forces, in coordination with the People’s Committees of wards and communes, have commenced the culling of poultry along with disinfection procedures in 25 wards and communes in Hue City. Over the past two days, nearly 30,000 poultry and quail have been culled in the first three wards. The People’s Committee of Hue City has also issued a directive stating that after November 25th, the city will be “free of” poultry, waterfowl, fighting cocks, and ornamental birds.
