At around 1 PM on July 17, 2006, a large fire broke out in Quarter 5, Ward 2, My Tho City, Tien Giang Province. Within 10 minutes of the fire starting, the Tien Giang Fire Prevention and Fighting Police mobilized four fire trucks and nearly 50 officers, along with local firefighting forces and the My Tho Fishing Port fire brigade, who rushed to extinguish the blaze. It wasn’t until nearly 3 PM that the fire was finally brought under control. The fire completely destroyed 14 houses, but fortunately, there were no casualties.
According to Tran Minh Duc, a nearby resident whose house was saved in time, he heard a loud explosion from the adjacent boarding house before the fire broke out. Subsequently, flames erupted and quickly spread to neighboring homes.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire. The estimated damage from the incident is about 2 billion VND.
