Microsoft has recently introduced a software tool capable of quickly identifying issues when a third-party application operates under the restricted privileges of the new generation operating system.
The tool, LUA Buglight, is designed to detect errors occurring within the Least User Access (LUA) security feature.
LUA minimizes user privileges to enhance Windows security, as a malicious program attempting to infiltrate a PC using standard mechanisms cannot cause as much damage when it operates under user mode compared to when it gains administrative access.
“LUA Buglight is a new software tool designed to identify LUA-related errors every time users run various applications,” a Microsoft representative stated. “With the reported information, vulnerabilities will be quickly reviewed and fixed.”
The software was initially intended for IT professionals needing to identify and rectify errors in third-party applications. However, it is now also used as a tool to search for LUA errors when running specific programs.
This week, Microsoft also announced plans to remove the Avalon graphics driver from the Windows Vista kernel to increase the operating system’s reliability. This change is making the Windows program increasingly resemble Unix and Linux.
