Changes in weight loss culture, leveraging technology in personal health care, and a focus on longevity are the main trends for 2024.
The aftermath of Covid-19, combined with economic downturns and the rapid rise of technology, has transformed the healthcare landscape for both patients and doctors. After three years of the pandemic, the world is turning towards internal health care, especially mental health, for a longer life.
Changing Weight Loss Culture
Experts predict that 2024 will be the year when weight loss trends centered around medications like Ozempic will rise. Many celebrities worldwide are making these solutions more popular.
“Ozempic will create a larger ripple effect across the food, beverage, and supplement markets in 2024,” said Frank Jaksch, CEO of the active ingredient company Ayana Bio.
He also hopes that snack manufacturers and fast-food chains will offer smaller, healthier, and nutritious portions to align with changing preferences, attracting a wave of health-conscious consumers.
After a few years of moving away from diet culture towards a “body positivity” movement (accepting one’s weight), public attitudes may shift. A recent Forbes Health survey indicates that the top goal for 2024 is a return to physical health. Some individuals expressed an increased focus on exercise after a few years where mental health took precedence.
Leveraging Technology in Health Care
Millions of Americans have been using smartwatches to track fitness, sleep, and health metrics in recent years. Experts predict that in 2024, the application of technology, particularly wearable devices in health care, will explode further.
“Smartwatches continue to expand beyond monitoring. They are being enhanced with more screening features to alert users to health issues before they become more serious,” predicted Christine Lemke, co-founder and CEO of health data company Evidation.

Science in Medicine
Misinformation about health will still exist in 2024, but experts say consumers will become more conscious in establishing health care strategies based on clinical research.
According to the annual prediction report from Mindbody and ClassPass, consumers expect products and services based on specific evidence of performance.
The report states that in 2024, people will be more knowledgeable about the medical products they use and consume. Many will prioritize opinions from experts with specialized knowledge. Predictive analysts believe the same will happen with health-focused social media.
Nicholette Leanza, a clinical advisor at LifeStance Health, stated: “Awareness of the negative impact of social media on mental health may lead young people to approach online content more judiciously.”
As a result, they trust the opinions of licensed professionals rather than influencers.
Strengthening Social Connections
Experts say the desire for social connections will increase in 2024, especially after years of the pandemic and lockdowns affecting mental health.
Bob Wright, the director of lifestyle education at Hilton Head Health, noted that social activities will be valued more than before. An isolated lifestyle increases stress and inflammation. It also heightens the risk of anxiety, depression, and related mental health challenges. Those experiencing these issues will crave healthier social interactions.
Teddy Savage, national head coach at Planet Fitness, mentioned that team sports will bring people together, allowing them to enjoy themselves while engaging in full-body workouts.
Leanza also observed a growing demand for in-person therapy sessions, particularly among Generation Z (those born between 1997 and 2015). This shift reflects a desire for genuine, engaging therapeutic experiences that leverage the benefits of face-to-face interaction.
Focusing on Longevity
Sustainable health trends, such as vegetarianism, sleep hygiene (habits and behaviors that promote good sleep), and gut health care, have gained popularity over the past two years. This indicates a desire for longer and healthier lives. Experts believe this will remain a top priority in 2024.
David Chesworth, an exercise physiologist at Hilton Head Health, stated that health trends in the coming years will continue to relate to longevity and self-care capabilities.
“Overall, the concept of longevity has been, is, and will continue to be a hot topic. In fact, many previously mentioned trends that have emerged over the past few years are becoming more popular because of this,” he said.
In addition to nutrition and sleep, some individuals are turning to exercise regimes that help them live longer. According to the report from Mindbody and ClassPass, nearly 30% of consumers stated they would begin exercising with the specific goal of living longer and healthier.
Temperature therapy is an emerging trend where experts combine methods using both heat and cold. Healing and recovery measures are even infiltrating the travel industry. The idea is to focus on health and well-being.
“Many people seek trips that combine workouts like yoga, breathing techniques, skill development, entertainment, and self-care, helping them age gracefully and without stress,” Chesworth said.
