Eczema is a challenging condition to treat. The combination of certain traditional medicines may help alleviate this persistent itchy disease, such as mugwort, patchouli, Sambucus, and green alum…
Eczema is a type of chronic skin lesion characterized by its persistent nature. The disease is marked by the presence of blisters, intense itching, and often the affected skin becomes thickened and keratinized. The use of ethnic medicine (detoxifying oral medications, health-boosting treatments, and external washing and ointment treatments to prevent infections and promote wound healing) combined with infrared light therapy has shown quite good results. Depending on the severity of the condition, the treatment duration is typically around 1-3 months.
Detoxifying, anti-inflammatory, and health-boosting oral medications: Use 15 grams each of golden thread, huỳnh kỳ, grand onion, and dang shen; 10 grams each of thổ phục linh, Sambucus, and the bark of the nuc nac (or yellow bark), windproof herb, and dandelion. Boil 600 ml of water to extract 200 ml. Repeat the process with the second extraction. If diarrhea occurs, add one sliced piece of ginger to the herbal mix. Continue drinking until the eczema lesions dry up, itching subsides, and no further recurrence occurs. For severe cases, 30-50 doses may be used, divided into several courses, each lasting about one week.
Soaking and washing eczema lesions: Use 50 grams of mugwort, 20 grams of xà sàng tử, 10 grams of patchouli, 50 grams of the bark of the nuc nac, and 5 grams of green alum. Combine these herbs in 3-4 liters of water, bring to a boil and let cool, then soak the affected area for about 10 minutes, several times a day. Each treatment period lasts about 5-7 days. Continue until the eczema no longer recurs. The herbal mixture can also be soaked in 1 liter of 30-degree alcohol, which can then be applied to the eczema lesions.
Infrared light therapy: Use an infrared lamp on the eczema-affected skin daily for about 10-15 minutes each session. Eczema often recurs multiple times, so treatment requires patience.
Patients with eczema should limit the intake of spicy foods and stimulants such as: alcohol, coffee, chili, pepper, shrimp, and crab. It is advisable to avoid applying ointments that contain salicylic acid, corticosteroids, or flucinar, as these may provide immediate relief from itching initially, but prolonged use can worsen the condition.
