With the Webcam XP (WXP) tool, you can transform your regular webcam into a genuine camcorder with decent resolution, effectively giving you a home video camera without spending money.
Upon your first login to WXP, you will need to set up its connection to your computer. Here’s how to do it: right-click on the WXP window to bring up the main menu -> select “Connect” -> choose “DirectX Video Source”, and then select the webcam model that WXP has recognized. Once you have selected the webcam, all images will be instantly captured in the recording window.
Clicking the “Record” button will start the video recording process immediately. The default digital video output format will be .AVI, and this video file will be saved in the default installation folder of WXP, or you can click the “Capture” button to take a snapshot.
WXP has already designed two windows for browsing saved images and videos. You can preview them immediately by double-clicking on them.
WXP supports recording from up to 10 webcams simultaneously on one computer, with each webcam displayed on a separate monitor. If you invest in a signal distribution box capable of connecting 10 webcams to your computer along with the appropriate webcam connection cables, you can place these 10 webcams in various key locations around your home to transform your computer and webcams into a surveillance hub.
The features in the “Web/Broadcast” tab will provide settings to upload live images from the webcam directly to a web server, allowing real-time monitoring of all images captured through the webcam over the internet.
