The Guangdong Meteorological Bureau issued a statement regarding the tornado situation in Zhongluotan Town, Baiyun District, Guangzhou (Guangdong, China) on April 27.
It was reported that around 3 PM on April 27, a tornado with maximum wind speeds of 20.6 m/s was recorded in Zhongluotan Town, approximately 2.8 km from the Liangtian weather station.
Images captured during the tornado left many people startled.
Many images and videos have surfaced showing the tornado, which caused considerable alarm among witnesses. The footage reveals a large tornado lifting various objects into the air and darkening the sky. The powerful winds even affected nearby power stations, leading to explosions.
Following the incident, the Baiyun District Meteorological Bureau promptly dispatched personnel to Zhongluotan Town to collaborate with the Baiyun District Emergency Management Bureau for an on-site investigation.
Initial assessments indicated that the tornado was classified as a level 3 event, with an impact radius of about 1 km, and there remains a risk of recurrence.
