Tip 1: Create Compressed Files Based on Storage Capacity
With this technique, you can compress any folder or file to fit the capacity of a floppy disk using a RAR file.
It’s quite simple; after selecting Add to archive, you will encounter the General tab. Here, look at the bottom left corner, and you will find the option Split to Volumes, Bytes. Click on that to choose the appropriate storage media and then press OK. This method is very convenient for storing files to match the storage capacity of various media. However, you can’t “squeeze oil from a stone” and should compare it according to your needs. For example, a typical folder may exceed the capacity of a floppy disk after compression. Therefore, to store it on a floppy disk, using the above method is the most convenient. If the folder is too large, you cannot use this method and must choose other storage media like ZIP or CD-ROM unless you happen to have several dozen floppy disks to store each file individually.
Tip 2: Shut Down the Computer After Compression is Complete
When you compress or decompress folders with large files, the best option is to let the computer do it automatically. You can’t sit and wait for the process to finish. In case of unexpected obligations, this utility becomes even more necessary. You can ask WinRAR to shut down your computer for you.
The procedure is also quite simple. Go to the Advanced tab. In the System section, select turn PC off when done. Press OK to complete. After the compression or decompression task, WinRAR will help you safely shut down your computer.
Additionally, there are other tips such as creating self-extracting compressed files, adding passwords, etc., which you can refer to when needed.
