A giant pumpkin weighing over 1000 kg has broken the record in the UK. It was so large that a forklift was needed to place it on the scales at an exhibition.
Twin brothers Ian and Stuart Paton, 63 years old, dedicated three hours each day for three months to care for the giant pumpkin weighing 1,198.2 kg in Lymington, Hampshire, England.
On September 26, they carefully drove four and a half hours to the Malvern Autumn Show, hoping it would be honored as the “heaviest pumpkin in the world.”
Unfortunately, they did not achieve the world record of 1247 kg, but they were very pleased to set a new record for the UK.
The pumpkin weighs 1198.2 kg.
Ian said: “It took a lot of effort and dedication. My twin brother and I spent three hours each day for three months caring for it.
We carefully placed it in the back of a large Volvo and drove at about 50 miles per hour. You definitely get some strange looks from other drivers.
Some people stopped on the road and then followed you for a closer look. They shouted, ‘Is it real?’ and we yelled back, ‘Yes.’
Thousands of people are expected to flock to the town of Worcestershire to admire various giant vegetables from September 27 and throughout the weekend.
Professional growers have begun showcasing their fruits and vegetables as the UK Giant Vegetable Championship commences.
