Beavers are nocturnal mammals that are semi-aquatic and belong to the Beaver family, Order Rodentia.
Beavers are well-known for their dam-building, canal-digging, and lodge-making abilities. With the capability to construct dams across streams, beavers act like architects, reshaping the surrounding ecosystem. They are the second-largest rodents in the world (after the capybara). Their colonies build one or two dams to create a calm and deep water area that helps protect against predators and also serves to store food and building materials on the water’s surface.
