The author group of Dr. Thai Hoang Chien and Dr. Phung Van Phuc has been awarded the EABE Best Paper Awards 2023 for the most outstanding paper with significant scientific impact over the past three years.
In 2023, three scientific papers were honored with the award (considering all papers published in 2020, 2021, and 2022). Among them, the work of the author group including Dr. Thai Hoang Chien (Ton Duc Thang University) and Dr. Phung Van Phuc (Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology) topped the list of EABE Best Paper Awards, announced on December 25. This award recognizes the outstanding paper with the most significant scientific impact published in the past three consecutive years in the journal Engineering Analysis with Boundary Elements (EABE), which is part of the prestigious ISI category according to Nafosted. This is the first time a Vietnamese author group has received this award.
The research introduced a new method to support the calculation of structures using composite materials and stiffness-reinforced structures, applied in the field of computational mechanics.
The study proposed a stabilization adjustment for the meshfree method to calculate complex reinforced structures. This new approach enhances the addition of stabilization components in structural calculations, significantly reducing disturbances and large errors in results when using traditional meshfree methods.
These results are directly applied to structural calculations in construction, stability assessments, impact analysis, and hull durability for automobiles, aircraft, and high-speed train shells. The research is also applied to the calculation of most structures using reinforced composite materials, simplifying the process, reducing computational costs, and achieving high accuracy and reliability.

The EABE Best Paper Awards were first announced by the Editorial Board in 2018. The team of professors from the Editorial Board selects the most scientifically impactful papers published in the previous three years. Awarded works must not only contain groundbreaking scientific content but also demonstrate impact within the global scientific community.
Sharing with VnExpress, the research group expressed their honor in receiving the award, describing it as “a tremendous encouragement” and expressing their desire to enhance collaborations with scientists worldwide. They particularly hope to contribute to training and guiding students and researchers to create a high-quality workforce in the field of computational mechanics.

Dr. Thai Hoang Chien and Dr. Phung Van Phuc are among the top 1% of scientists worldwide in the fields of Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace, due to their highly cited research and contributions in their respective fields.
Dr. Chien has been listed among the top 100,000 scientists in the world for several years. He is a member of the Computational Mechanics Research Group (DCM), one of the first research groups at Ton Duc Thang University. Dr. Chien has published nearly 100 research works, including many papers in ISI journals. In 2023, he was one of five Vietnamese scientists awarded the “Rising Star” badge, recognizing him as an exceptional emerging scientist globally.
Dr. Phuc is a well-known Vietnamese scientist in global rankings. He has been listed among the top 100,000 most influential scientists in the world for five consecutive years and is one of only two scientists to receive the “Rising Star” badge for two consecutive years in 2022 and 2023. Dr. Phuc has published over 60 scientific papers in international ISI-ranked journals, focusing on Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering.
