A human footprint from the Ice Age discovered at Willandra Lakes |
Hundreds of human footprints dating back to the late Ice Age have been discovered in a remote area of Australia.
457 footprints were found at Mungo National Park in western New South Wales, Australia, which is recognized as the site with the most human footprints in the world and the oldest footprints in Australia, according to The Sydney Morning Herald’s report yesterday (December 22).
The newspaper cited archaeologists stating that these footprints are located near Willandra Lakes and date back 19,000 to 23,000 years.
Australian Environment Minister Bob Debus mentioned that these traces indicate a group of people moved and interacted with one another.
“We discovered children’s footprints running among their parents’ footprints; the children’s footprints meander while the parents’ footprints are in straight lines,” Debus said.
According to experts, these traces provide insight into the lives of primitive people in western New South Wales 20,000 years ago.
