What’s Special About This High Tree Rock?
A leopard sneaks its head inside to steal chicks from the nest.
A<strong ground hornbill (scientific name: Bucorvus leadbeateri) mother had just left the nest after feeding her chicks when a<strong leopard (scientific name: Panthera pardus) appeared right at the entrance of the nest.
The leopard then stuck its head inside to steal chicks from the nest. Although the nest was very high up, the leopard is an adept climber, allowing it to access the nest with relative ease.
The ground hornbill is a rare bird species that is currently being conserved. The stone nest was created by researchers to provide them with a sturdy home. However, this does not protect the species from predatory threats.
