A woman in Thailand has been fortunate enough to discover a rare Melo pearl inside a sea snail she was preparing for dinner.
Urai Loyfa, 47 years old, found a gem nearly the size of a quail egg inside a boiled snail. Recognizing its potential value, Urai decided to hold on to the orange pearl for further examination.
She consulted her neighbors and friends in Krabi Province, Thailand, and it was confirmed that it was indeed a valuable Melo pearl. Overjoyed, Urai subsequently reported her discovery to the local police.
Pearl merchant Sanit Phromprung, 53 years old, visited Urai’s home on August 11 upon hearing the news. The man offered Urai 400,000 Baht for the 87-carat gem, but Urai declined as she was waiting for other buyers to contact her.
Urai stated: “The pearl was inside the snail given to me by a relative. The snail weighs over 1kg. I am very grateful for the offer to sell the pearl, but I believe it is worth more than that.”
Sanit expressed his hope to reach a deal for the pearl.
