A mother of three is using breast milk to create jewelry with projected revenue of $1.9 million in 2023.
The idea of making jewelry from breast milk may sound unusual, but a woman from London, England, has turned it into a reality.
Safiyya Riyadh.
Safiyya Riyadh, 37, a mother of three, and her husband Adam Riyadh, 41, run a business specializing in preserving flowers for special occasions and transforming them into sentimental accessories that can last forever.
The couple from Bexley, London, stumbled upon an article about using breast milk to create jewelry during the COVID-19 lockdown. They decided to incorporate this idea into their business, and Safiyya began making breast milk jewelry.
Safiyya’s business has seen an astonishing boom, with a 480% increase since they started using breast milk as a material for their jewelry. They now estimate a revenue of $1.9 million for 2023.
Safiyya shares that she works with mothers and helps preserve breast milk by turning it into jewelry, allowing everyone to keep “the memories of their breastfeeding journey.”
Jewelry including necklaces, earrings, and rings.
Customers need to provide at least 30 ml of breast milk to transform it into gems that create jewelry, including necklaces, earrings, and rings.
Safiyya Riyadh has conducted extensive research to find a formula for preserving breast milk, ensuring that it retains its original color. She also developed a dehydration process for the liquid and then combined it with high-quality non-yellowing resin to keep the jewelry clear for a long time.
Her clients often include mothers who struggle with breastfeeding, parents wanting to commemorate the end of their nursing period, and those who have sadly lost a child.
Safiyya shares, “Personally, I am also a mother, but I couldn’t breastfeed for a long time. Society puts a lot of pressure on women; they have to do many things, including breastfeeding. When I first learned that breast milk could be preserved, I wished I could keep some breast milk after giving birth to my last child to create jewelry that commemorates that wonderful time. These pieces of jewelry will be an emotional connection between mothers and their newborns, preserving the memory of that cherished time.”
