The leadership of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has confirmed that it will support between 3 to 5 million USD for the establishment and implementation of initial activities (2006-2007) of the Institute of Computational Science and Technology – a new collaboration model between scientists in Ho Chi Minh City and Vietnamese scientists residing abroad that has just been submitted.
According to initial information, nearly 20 scientists who are Vietnamese expatriates have expressed their intention to return and work at the Institute.
Professor Nguyen Dang Hung, a Vietnamese expatriate in Belgium, stated that this is a new field of science; thus, the Institute will initially focus on areas including mechanics, chemistry, biomedical sciences, and applied mathematics. It aims to leverage computer simulation and modeling capabilities to support other scientific and technological fields, thereby bridging the gap between research and practical application. After this initial phase, the Institute will operate independently and pilot some new mechanisms for scientific and technological research.
The Institute, led by a Vietnamese expatriate as director, will be located at the Quang Trung Software Park and is set to officially launch its projects in the fourth quarter of this year.
Mr. Nguyen Thien Nhan, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, expressed hope that with the maximum support from the city, the Institute will become a leading center for computational science and technology nationwide and establish its brand in the Asian region.
