The Russian Federal Space Agency reported that the launch took place at around 4:00 AM (Vietnam time).
The satellite is expected to separate from the Zenit 3SLB rocket at 10:30 AM the same day and will enter a geostationary orbit.
Intelsat-18 is equipped with 32 transponders and will provide telecommunications services to clients in East Asia, the U.S. West Coast, and the Pacific region.
Designed for a lifespan of about 15 years, this type of satellite is integral to modern communications.
This successful launch comes at a time when Russia’s space industry has faced numerous setbacks, including failed launches or delays due to technical issues.
Earlier, on August 24, the Progress M-12M cargo ship bound for the International Space Station (ISS) crashed in the Altai Mountains.
According to the investigation results, the accident occurred due to a blockage in the fuel supply line for the atmospheric re-entry engine of the third stage of the Soyuz rocket.
