A team of experts from the University of Manchester in the UK has created a virtual computer world to determine whether telepathy exists between humans.
The system is designed to resemble a computer game environment. One hundred participants are paired based on relationships such as friends, colleagues, or family members.
They are placed in completely separate rooms within the same building to eliminate any possibility of communication. Participants wear 3D headsets and electronic gloves to help them navigate the virtual world.
The person in the first room will see a random object, such as a phone, ball, or umbrella. They are asked to focus on this object and attempt to transmit a message to it. Simultaneously, the person in the other room is presented with four different objects and must choose one that they believe the other person is trying to communicate with.
Experts from the School of Computer Science and the School of Psychology at the University of Manchester hope that through this project, they will soon answer the questions: “Does telepathy really exist? Does this ability depend on relationships in life?”
