The vaccine known as Twinrix TM, which provides dual protection against hepatitis A and B, was introduced by the manufacturer GlaxoSmithKline on February 17.
The main advantage of this new vaccine is the reduction in the number of doses required (from five doses down to two doses for children aged 1-15 years, and from five doses down to three doses for adults).
To date, Twinrix TM is the only vaccine that combines protection against these two diseases. This vaccine has been approved for use in 70 countries worldwide. In Vietnam, the Central Institute for Hygiene and Epidemiology has produced separate vaccines for hepatitis A and B, but it has been preparing to produce combination vaccines since 2006.
